Dos Pueblos scored two early goals and that’s all it needed to beat Buena 2-0 on Senior Day at Scott O’Leary Stadium on Thursday.
Ivan Luna scored on the rebound of his blocked penalty kick in the third minute and Nicky Neumann added the second goal 30 seconds later. He took a pass from Ivan Luna in transition, beat Buena’s offsides trap and scored.
DP got a strong game from goalkeeper Eric Katz, who posted his 12th shutout.
“He made two saves that should have been goals for Buena,” DP coach Tovi Eliasen said. “On one, he stuck out his leg on a full extension and made a kick save in the 13th minute. It was a tremendous save.
“He also made some good punches on Buena crosses and corners. Eric was really up for it today. He had a lot to do with the shutout.”
Eliasen also praised Neumann’s performance.
“He put pressure on the back line and forced it into a lot of mistakes,” Eliasen said.
The Chargers (16-5-2, 4-3) close out the regular season on Tuesday at San Marcos.
