Glendale took five of six singles matches Thursday and went on to beat SBCC 6-3 in a WSC men’s tennis opener at Pershing Park.
“Glendale came out firing,“ said Santa Barbara coach Ryan Heinberg. “They’ve played eight matches and they looked like the more experienced team.”
Troy Akin won at No. 5 singles (6-2, 5-7, 10-3 tiebreaker) for the hometown Vaqueros (0-3, 0-1). Nikolay Ivanov-Regis Fastrez and John Rosenkvist-Rob Herr posted doubles wins.
The Vaqueros are scheduled to play their third home match in four days on Friday at 2 p.m. against Cypress. There’s an 80 percent chance of rain.
