Bishop Diego’s boys basketball team rose to its highest CIF ranking of the season on Monday as the latest polls were released.
The Cardinals (17-7, 8-1) clinched the Frontier League title outright last week and rose from No. 5 to No. 2 in Division VI-AA as a result.
The Cardinals girls team is also near the top of their division, holding on to No. 3 behind Pasadena Poly and Chadwick.
Santa Barbara’s girls basketball remains No. 5 in Div. II-A while Dos Pueblos falls to No. 13 after losing to the Dons for the second time in Channel League play last week.
Other than Bishop’s No. 2 boys team, San Marcos’ 13th-ranked squad in Div. III-A is the only other area boys team with a ranking. The Royals are battling Dos Pueblos for the No. 3 playoff spot from the Channel League.
Dos Pueblos’ girls water polo team, winner of 61-straight games, is No. 1 in Division I. Cate’s No. 1-ranked boys soccer team (Div. VII) is undefeated on the season.
Santa Barbara High’s boys soccer team dropped one position – from No. 3 to No. 4 – in Division I. Carpinteria re-appeared in the Div. V rankings tied for tenth.
In girls soccer, Dos Pueblos is No. 9 in Division II. Channel League champion Buena is No. 4.
Santa Barbara High’s girls water polo team fell from a season-high No. 3 ranking last week to No. 6 this week, despite a strong fourth-place finish at this weekend’s SoCal Championships. San Marcos is No. 10 for a second straight week after winning the consolation championship at the same event.
