Dos Pueblos’ wrestling team reached the semifinals of Saturday’s CIF Dual Meet at Redlands East Valley High School with two victories, eventually falling to West Covina.
The unseeded Chargers started with a 49-21 victory over Bishop Amat before bringing down Redlands East Valley 35-33. In the semis, DP was topped 49-19 by West Covina.
“Shoot, they were just better,” said Chargers head coach Anthony Califano of West Covina.
Califano was thrilled with the win over second-seeded Redlands, and highlighted a performance from one of his freshman. Hans Boelsterli competed at the 171-pound level and upset his opponent with a pin in the third round.
“Looking back, it was a really big lift for the team,” Califano said. “That was the decider even though it was early in the match.”
Dos Pueblos will compete next at the CIF Individual Championships next Saturday in Corona.
