The long, arduous journey to a berth in the CIF State Meet begins Saturday for Channel League wrestlers at the league championships at Dos Pueblos High.
The meet was moved from San Marcos. Competition in varsity and JV divisions begins at 10 a.m. The varsity finals are expected to start at around 2:30 p.m.
The top three varsity finishers in the day-long meet will advance to the CIF Individual Regional Tournament.
Dos Pueblos has two returning finalists: Chad Lampe and Harrison Solomon, and Lucas Rascon was a third-place finisher last year. Solomon advanced to the CIF Masters Meet in 2010.
Ventura’s 171-pounder Ryan Bortness and Buena’s 121-pound Steven Mendez are returning league champions. Bortness reached the state meet last year.
