Cate regains finishing touch, rolls to 10-0 win

Cate must have worked on its finishing in practice Thursday after missing on several chances in its second-round win.

The Rams’ offense was running on all cylinders Friday as they demolished the Grove School 10-0 in a CIF Division 7 boys quarterfinal soccer game in Redlands.

Avery Schwartz scored four goals and assisted on another, and Ema Boateng added three goals and an assist. Teddy Mauze, George Luo and Shuta Kobayashi scored goals and Matthew Firestone collected an assist.

Goalkeeper Blake Wands recorded his 15th shutout of the season.

The Rams didn’t score their first goal until the 21st minute.

“Then the floodgates opened,” said coach Dave Mochel.

Top-seeded Cate (20-0) advances to the semifinals on Tuesday at University Prep in Victorville.
