Elisa Bernardi scored in the first minute and goalkeeper Kim Ruiz returned from injury and played a solid game to led Bishop Diego to a 2-0 girls soccer win over Fillmore on Tuesday.
Bernardi dribbled 35 yards through the Fillmore defense and blasted a shot into the back of the net to start the game.
“That was a good way to open a game,” said coach Brent Gonsalves.
Bernardi added a second goal off a Lauren Underwood assist in the 70th minute.
Ruiz notched the shutout.
“She had been out for two games with an injury. It was good to get her back in the net,” said Gonsalves.
Bishop Diego improves to 9-6-2 and 4-3 in the Frontier League. Gonsalves said a win at home Thursday against Villanova would secure a playoff spot.
