Elisa Bernardi scored just before the halftime whistle, sparking the Bishop Diego girls soccer team to a 2-0 win over Villanova in a Frontier League match on Thursday.
Natalie Durtche provided the assist for the game-winner.
Durtche also assisted on the second goal. Her corner kick in the 43rd minute was headed in by Annalise Morando.
“It was one-sided affair. We missed on multiple opportunities, but three points is three points,” said Bishop coach Brent Gonsalves.
Gonsalves expected the win would clinch a CIF playoff berth for the Cardinals, but Carpinteria spoiled that idea by upsetting first-place Santa Clara.
“We have two games left. If we get a result in one of the two, it’s a done deal,” said Gonsalves.
The Cardinals (10-6-2, 5-3) play at Santa Clara and Grace Brethren next week.
