Johnny Requejo scored in the first 10 minutes and Carpinteria tacked on three more goals to beat Malibu in the second game of a five-game boys soccer road swing in the Tri-Valley League on Friday.
Requejo carried the ball from the middle of the field, beat a defender at the top of the 18-yard box and scored into an open net as the Malibu goalkeeper raced out and collided into one of his defenders.
The next three goals came off corner kicks. Mohamed Mehi finished a corner from Edwin Elizarraras in the 19th minute for a 2-0 lead. Eduardo Mejia scored from Ismael Soriano in the 44th minute, and Soriano tallied the final goal in the 71st minute. It was his 15th of the season.
Carpinteria coach Danny Torres was pleased with how his team finished its chances. It struggled in its previous outing at Oak Park.
“We finished early, especially in the first half,” he said. “It was nice to go up early. We played well for 80 minutes; we controlled the tempo of game. (The guys) were really happy after the game. They showed they really wanted it.”
Carpinteria (10-2-3, 4-1) gets back on the road Monday at Santa Paula.
