The chances were plenty, but the Carpinteria boys soccer team struggled to finish them and suffered the consequences, losing to Oak Park 3-1 in a Tri-Valley League game on Wednesday.
“We had an infinite amount of chances and we just couldn’t convert,” Carpinteria coach Danny Torres said. “It’s not an excuse. I thought we played well and controlled the tempo of the game We just couldn’t finish.”
Oak Park, meanwhile, scored its three goals on three shots, all in the second half.
Carpinteria scored first in the match on a goal by Ismael Soriano.
Oak Park, which was playing for the counterattack, tied the score in the 55th minute and took the lead five minutes later.
The Eagles scored their third goal on a shot from 30 yards.
“I told the boys we have to score if we’re going to win,” said Torres, whose team is 9-2-3 and 3-1 in league.
