Vanetti takes over for Crawford at San Marcos

Rob Crawford made the playoffs in both years as the head coach at San Marcos.

The keys to the San Marcos baseball team have changed hands, as the school announced on Thursday that Tony Vanetti has taken over for Rob Crawford as the Royals’ head baseball coach.

Crawford resigned last Friday in order to fully commit to his full-time job as General Manager of Complete Nutrition in Goleta. Crawford led the Royals to their first postseason berth since 2000 in his first year as coach in 2009. He then led the team back to CIF in 2010.

Vanetti provides a seamless transition as he has been a part of the program for the past seven years and has a close connection with Goleta Valley South Little League.

“At least there is some continuity,” Crawford said, adding that he didn’t want to leave and had to make a tough decision.

“Rob Crawford did a great job as our Coach, and we will miss the many contributions he made to
our program. San Marcos was positively influenced by his presence. He is a great role model and
hopefully he can come back and help with our program, when his new work schedule permits”, Royals Athletic Director Abe Jahadhmy said in a statement released by the school. “We were fortunate to have a Coach of Tony Vanetti’s caliber take over our program. He loves and lives baseball and has a great repot with the players. It was very important to have continuity and keep our Coaching staff intact.”
