The Santa Barbara Wavestorm boys all-star team won the AYSO Area 10W championship.
Bakersfield is the goal for AYSO teams playing in Area postseason tournaments.
The Santa Barbara Wavestorm, a 12-under boys all-star squad, reached that goal last weekend by winning the Area 10W championship in Camarillo.
The Wavestorm rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit against Ventura, scoring two second-half goals to tie the score and then prevailing in a penalty-kick shootout, 3-2. The dramatic victory advances them to the Sectional Championships in Bakersfield in March.
The Wavestorm posted a 7-1-1 record in the three-weekend Area tournament.
In the semifinals, the Wavestorm played another Santa Barbara team, the Strikers, and pulled out a heart-stopping 2-1 victory, scoring the winning goal in the final minute.
Member of the Wavestorm are Nate Fay, Ryan Fay, Josh Feldhaus, Matthew Hempy, Trey Lavender, Ryan Lowe, Colter Nisbet, Bryce Quezada, Chris Roteman, Bryan Sheets, Jake Sofro and Zach Wright. The team is coached by Brad Hempy and Matt Fay.
Looks like Brad Hempy is still working his magic after all these years!! Will always be appreciative of his nurturing my Taryn 12 years ago — as an 8-year-old All-Star — that multiplied many benefits for her throughout her fun soccer career. Coach Matt Fay is a cool dude too!!
