Greer Shull’s 21-point effort was key to Bishop Diego’s 59-56 Tri-Valley League win over Nordhoff on Thursday, as the Cardinals rebounded from an earlier 17-point loss to the Rangers.
“We were able to hang on and pull it out,” said Cardinals head coach Jeff Burich.
Shull’s offensive output was a career high and included a clutch 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter that put a chill on Nordhoff’s comeback attempts.
“You could just see it, it was a back-breaker for them,” Burich said.
Shull connected on four 3-pointers throughout the game and converted 9-of-10 free throw attempts.
“Free throws were a big story for us,” Burich said, citing 18 makes from the charity stripe.
Essence Thornhill had a complete line with 13 points, nine rebounds, five steals and three blocks. Kelsey Stimson posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Allison Breuer’s was the team’s leading rebounder with 13 total.
Bishop Diego (11-11, 2-6 TVL) plays host to Santa Clara on Tuesday.
