Ventura upped its Channel League record to 4-1 on Thursday, beating out San Marcos 45-22 to get there.
It was an improvement for the Royals on both offense and defense from the first time the two teams played, leaving Royals head coach Kristyn Miller to say the team was in relative high spirits.
“We did a good job defensively,” Miller said. “We were able to execute our offense and find open players. We just weren’t able to make a lot of those shots.”
Desiree Porter-Ray led the Royals with 12 points and Emily Dietz connected on two 3-pointers for six points. Taylor Escobar was the only other San Marcos player to score with four points.
San Marcos plays a Friday night game at Laguna Blanca starting at 6 p.m.
