Hannah Koper scored five goals and Brittny Hummel made some big defensive plays to help the San Marcos girls water polo team defeat Buena 11-5 in a Channel League match on Tuesday.
Hummel hustled all over the pool to cover for her teammates.
“Without her defense and awareness, I think the game could have been very close,” San Marcos coach Chuckie Roth said.
Rose Koper and Halie Johnson each scored two goals and Alex Brown had seven saves and three steals.
The Royals struggled a bit on hits 6-on-5 situations, converting on just three of nine power plays.
San Marcos takes a break from league play and heads to Orange County to face 10th-ranked Fountain Valley at Ocean View High. The two team met earlier this year and the Royals lost 9-5.
