Villanova used a box-and-one defense to try to slow down Bishop Diego’s Elias Muñoz on Friday night.
Muñoz demonstrated why he was being singled out, scoring 22 points to lead the Cardinals past the Wildcats 51-40 in a Frontier League game.
“Even with the box-and-1, we were able to get to Elias,” said Cardinals head coach Dean Prophet, who has his team at 4-1 in league.
Noah Tack was active on the offensive end as well, tallying 16 points. Reece Moulton pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and Johnny Diaz recorded four steals.
It was a tight game at halftime with the Cardinals holding a 21-19 lead. But a 15-7 third-quarter run put Bishop in control.
The Cardinals (13-7) play again on Monday in a league game at Grace Brethren.
