Bishop Diego made a second half push but couldn’t topple Mission Prep on Saturday, settling for a 63-54 loss.
“We got off to a really slow start and they had a couple of big guys that hurt us,” said Cardinals head coach Dean Prophet.
The result was a 34-15 halftime deficit.
“Once we adjusted to the speed of the game, we did a better job in the second half,” Prophet said.
Elias Muñoz led Bishop with 21 points and six steals. Johnny Diaz provided 10 points off the bench and Noah Tack’s eight points came against Mission Prep’s 6-6 bigman. Alex Ramirez collected a team-high five rebounds.
The 10-6 Cardinals return to league play with two road games next week: Wednesday against Malibu, followed by Santa Paula on Friday.
