Free throws help Cate get past Laguna Blanca

Cate opened up a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter and held off Laguna Blanca, 43-36, in a Condor League girls basketball game at the Owls’ gym on Friday.

The Rams benefited from the charity stripe, where they attempted 28 free throws and made 15.

Laguna Blanca shot 6-of-16 from the free-throw line.

“That was the difference,” said Laguna Blanca coach Chris Foster.

Grace Dickman scored nine of her 21 points from the line to lead Cate.

“Grace played a very solid game from her point guard position,” Cate coach Jay Dorion said. “She neutralized Laguna’s best player for long stretches of the game, scored points in bunches, distributed the ball effectively, and iced the game down the stretch by hitting her free throws.”

Kartina Von Burg pulled down 11 rebounds for the Rams.

“Katrina showed some real grit, determination, and perhaps most important, concentration,” said Dorion. “This was her most complete game of the season.”

Amanda Schulenberg led Laguna Blanca with 18 points, and Krysta Brown hauled in 18 rebounds.
