The UCSB baseball team will welcome back a large contingent of its famous former players on Saturday for the Gauchos’ annual alumni weekend.
Scheduled to return to Caesar Uyesaka Stadium on Saturday, Jan. 29 will be Major League Baseball stars Skip Schumaker (St. Louis Cardinals), Ryan Spilborghs (Colorado Rockies) and Chris Valaika (Cincinnati Reds) along with top minor leaguers Virgil Vasquez (Los Angeles Angels), Justin Lehr (Cincinnati Reds), Joe Gardner (Cleveland Indians) Andy Graham (Colorado Rockies), Chuck Huggins (Toronto Blue Jays) and many more.
Fans are invited to Caesar Uyesaka Stadium starting at 10 a.m. for Fan Fest. For $5, fans can get autographs from their famous former UCSB players, see the pros take part in a home run derby and then watch the 2011 Gaucho squad play a scrimmage in preparation for the upcoming season.
The Fan Fest will also feature the 1986, 1996 and 2001 UCSB baseball teams that were some of the most successful in school history. Numerous players from those squads will be on hand for a ceremony highlighting their accomplishments.
Also expected to be at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium will be professional players Brian Gump (Philadelphia Phillies), Mario Hollands (Philadelphia Phillies), Mike Zuanich (Colorado Rockies) and Patrick Rose (Independent League). Joining them will be Michael Martin, who is second all-time in UCSB history in wins, and Justin Segal, the Gauchos’ all-time leader in appearances and second in saves.
Baseball season tickets are now on sale for one low price.
The best seats at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium will again be reserved for season-ticket holders and any fan purchasing tickets now will receive the new UCSB Sunday hats with each season ticket purchased. The Gaucho Sunday hats are white with a blue brim and have the UCSB logo in blue with gold outline.
