Dos Pueblos couldn’t cool off the hot-shooting of Buena and dropped a 66-53 decision in a Channel League boys basketball game at Sovine Gym on Friday.
“They couldn’t miss,” DP coach Joe Zamora said of the Bulldogs. “They hit 11 threes and were 15 of 21 from the free-throw line.
The Chargers, meanwhile, struggled to get things going and fell behind by as many as 22 points.
“We were stagnant on offense,” Zamora said. “We had chances to close the gap, but we had shots go in and out and they had shots go in and out and in.”
Dos Pueblos did cut the Buena lead to nine points in the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs made 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch to pull out the road win.
Roger Reyes scored 22 points and Spencer Smith added 11 for Buena (9-7, 2-1).
Jay Larinan led Dos Pueblos with 20 points and Pablo Miranda chipped in 11. The Chargers fall to 7-7 and 1-2 in the Channel League.
“Give Buena credit, they played a good game,” Zamora said. “We have to have a short-term memory and get ready for San Marcos on Wednesday.”
