Santa Barbara High’s girls basketball team saw its modest three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday night, as the Dons fell to Rio Mesa 37-36.
The Spartans, who led most of the game, took the one-point advantage on a free throw with 22 seconds left on the clock. Santa Barbara had a chance to regain the lead but did not get off a great shot on its final possession.
Santa Barbara had beaten Rio Mesa just last season on a buzzer-beater.
“We were hoping to pull off another miracle but it didn’t materialize,” said Dons head coach Andrew Butcher.
The Dons can look to regroup on Tuesday in a Channel League clash with Dos Pueblos.
