Santa Barbara’s offense couldn’t find a finishing touch, and the Dons paid the price with a 2-0 loss at Ventura on Tuesday.
The defeat snapped a 15-match unbeaten streak, in which the Dons had won 11 in row.
The worst part about the loss for the Dons was they outshot Ventura 15-4.
“We just weren’t very good in front of the goal tonight,” said a disappointed Santa Barbara coach Todd Heil.
The Dons played without centerback Tony Alfaro, who was sitting out a one-game suspension for a red card. But Heil said Alfaro’s absence had nothing to do with the loss.
“We gave up only four shots. That’s not a lack of defense,” he said. “It’s more about putting up 15 shots and not putting them away. That was the story.”
The performance was reminiscent of the early season, when the Dons opened with two losses.
The result leaves Santa Barbara at 13-4-3 overall and 3-1-0 in Channel League. Ventura is 14-4-1, 2-0.
