CIF Polls: Royals make VIP list

San Marcos’ girls water polo team broke into the CIF polls for the first time this season on Monday, claiming the No. 10 spot in Division I.

Dos Pueblos still holds the No. 1 position, but Santa Barbara moved up to No. 3 as the Dons and Royals hold their highest ranking of the season.

Bishop Diego’s girls basketball team is another local squad that climbed to its highest perch of the season. The Cardinals move up one spot to No. 3 in Div. V-A, behind No. 1 Pasadena Poly and No. 2 Chadwick.

Bishop Diego and San Marcos are the area’s two ranked boys basketball teams. The Royals are No. 12 in III-A and the Cardinals are No. 5 in VI-AA.

Santa Barbara and Dos Pueblos remain ranked divisional foes in girls basketball. The Dons are No. 5 and Dos Pueblos No. 10 in Division II-A. The two teams meet for the third time this season on Thursday in the Chargers’ gym.

Another big game between ranked teams this week comes in boys soccer, where No. 3 Santa Barbara and No. 5 Ventura meet for a Division-I clash. Cate, No. 1 in Division VI, has two Condor League games this week.
