Santa Barbara High’s girls water polo team moved up to No. 4 in this week’s CIF polls, which were released on Tuesday because of the MLK holiday.
The Dons join the No. 1 Dos Pueblos Chargers to make up half of the top four teams in CIF Division I. The Dons, who defeated No. 2 Los Alamitos in the semifinals of last weekend’s Tournament of Champions – have given the undefeated Chargers two of their toughest matches of the season – both one-goal decisions.
Cate’s boys soccer team is connected to Dos Pueblos’ water polo team in that the Rams are a top-ranked team. The 10-0 Rams are No. 1 in Division VII and are also ranked by ESPN Rise as the No. 47 team in the country.
Santa Barbara High remains the No. 3 team in Division I. Carpinteria won three matches last week and re-entered the rankings as the No. 7 team in Division V.
The Dons and Chargers are also eyeing each other in the girls basketball polls, as Santa Barbara is No. 4 in Div. II-A and the Chargers are No. 9.
Bishop Diego’s girls basketball team is the No. 4 team in Division V-A while the Cardinals boys team is No. 5 in VI-AA.
San Marcos hasn’t seen any major climb or fall in its ranking this season, coming in this week as the No. 8 team in III-A.
Dos Pueblos’ girls soccer team is No. 8 in Division II after losing to Buena last week in a first-place showdown.
