Dos Pueblos gave up a goal in the first five minutes and couldn’t recover, falling to Ventura 3-1 in a Channel League boys soccer match on Tuesday.
“They have our number this year,” DP coach Tovi Eliasen said of the Cougars, who won both meetings against DP and dropped the Chargers to 2-3 in league play.
Ventura scored on a rebound to make it 2-0 in the 30th minute.
A missed clearance by the Chargers led to the third goal.
“Ventura just capitalized on their opportunities, while we seemed lost in the attacking third,” said Eliasen.
The Chargers avoided the shutout by getting a goal from sophomore Robert Bertha. He latched on to a loose ball and buried a shot from 25 yards for his first varsity goal.
“We’re going through a rough patch and it’s coming at a bad time for us,” said Eliasen.
DP (14-5-2) returns home on Tuesday to play Santa Barbara.
