Dos Pueblos girls basketball coach Jelani Hicks is hoping Thursday’s 82-39 romp over San Marcos will the springboard to a good second half of the Channel League season.
The Chargers used their pressing defense to force numerous turnovers and roared to a big lead en route to snapping a three-game losing streak. They’re 1-3 in league and 15-6 overall.
“This was a good one,” Hicks said. “The first round of league was a rude awakening. It was a very good learning experience. We now know what we need to do. Hopefully, we learned and made the necessary adjustments to win in the second round.”
Kristen Gowdy led the way on Thursday with 19 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Natalie Hilton had 12 points, four rebounds and three steals and Chiara Dimarco had 12 points, four assists and three steals.
The Chargers play at non-league game at Pacifica on Saturday.
82 points? (7) 3 pointers?–That’s a lot of scoring!!!
GO CHARGERS!!!!
82-37? Way to run the score up…stay classy DP
SantaBarbarian—You probably didn’t attend the game so you should know the DP starters hardly played in the game. The top seven players sat down at the beginning of the 3rd quarter and didn’t play the rest of the game. The DP bench played most of the 2nd half with every player participating and everyone scoring. Otherwise DP could have scored over 100.
I stand corrected. If the starters were completely pulled in the second half and DP didn’t press or play man, then I was off base.
Santa Barbarian. It was a classy game played by both teams but unfortunately it was a mismatch and DP didn’t deliberately run up the score since most starters and top reserves watched the 2nd half from the bench..
FYI-San Marcos also lost in lopsided games to Buena, 64-24, Ventura 53-16, and Dana Hills 60-23.
So any team that wins by a large margin isn’t classy? Just sayin.
