Cate’s girls water polo team was at the top of its game in beating visiting Villanova 4-3 on Wednesday.
The Rams avenged an earlier season defeat and gave themselves some much needed momentum heading into the final two weeks of the season.
Junior goalie Lela Puckett had the best game of her career, stopping a handfulof point-blank shots to keep Villanova’s offense in check all game long.
Senior captain Kate Montgomery once again led her team with two huge goals. Fellow captain Carly Biedul and senior Jamie Haight each scored a goal. Catel opened up a 3-0 lead before Villanova scratched its way back into it with two in a row. Haight’s goal made it 4-2 before an own goal brought the score to 4-3, but Cate’s solid defense closed it out.
