Ema Boateng cracked Midland’s packed-in defense and undefeated Cate romped to a 5-0 Condor League boys soccer victory on Wednesday.
Boateng slammed a shot that was too hot for the goalkeeper to handle and freshman Matthew Firestone finished the rebound to break a scoreless draw in the first half.
Seven minutes later senior Jackson Mauze threw the ball to his freshman brother Teddy Mauze who side-volleyed it into the Midland net for a 2-0 lead.
“Midland had a clear strategy: pack the back and try to break out for a fastbreak goal,” Cate coach Dave Mochel said. “Well, it looked like that strategy was going to work when the Oaks thwarted our early attempts and then forced goalie Blake Wands to make a daring breakaway save early in the game.”
The two goals opened things up for Boateng in the second half and the sophomore went off with three goals.
The Rams, 11-0 and ranked No. 1 in CIF Division 7, travels rival Thacher next Wednesday.
