San Marcos showed good scoring balance in routing Lompoc 64-22 in a non-league boys basketball game Thursday.
Five players scored 8 or more points for the Royals, led by Thayer White with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting and four steals. Christian Mkpado tallied 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting and nine rebounds.
“Thayer and Christian dominated the paint on both ends of the court,” San Marcos coach Jarrod Bradley said. “Thayer scored off drives, put backs and post-ups. He got whatever he wanted tonight. He’s a very difficult match up for most teams because he’s strong and mobile. Christian had two guys draped on him all night and did a great job getting to the rim and following misses.”
Incorporating an effective half court trap, San Marcos forced 27 Lompoc turnovers and had 21 steals. Chad Ridenour led the Royals with seven steals.
“Chad was spectacular on defense. He was vocal and led our guards by pressuring the ball and aggressively playing passing lanes,” said Bradley.
Starting point guard Donny Nahmias scored 10 points had three steals, three assists and only one turnover.
The Royals play two tough games Friday against Clovis North at 3 p.m. and defending CIF 3A champion Foothill at 7 p.m. at the Clovis Tournament.
