Seven Warriors scored on Saturday, taking the Carpinteria’s girls basketball team to a 41-25 victory over Cabrillo at the Cardinal Cage Classic and a seventh-place finish.
Melissa Lemus led all scorers with 14 points and contributed four assists. Mirina Deleon added nine points and was named to the all-tournament team. Juli Cullins posted totals of seven points and 14 rebounds. Stephanie Lugo also drew praise from her coach for providing much-needed hustle and energy off the bench.
“So we’re getting some good balance,” said Warriors head coach Dan Mercer, who is working with seven underclassmen and two seniors on his roster.
Carpinteria improves to 2-4 on the season and host Thacher on Monday at 7 p.m.
