Carpinteria took on CIF Division 1 school Royal and played the Highlanders to a 3-3 tie on Wednesday night.
Royal rallied to gain the draw, scoring in the 70th minute on a penalty kick.
“It was a fun game,” Carpinteria coach Danny Torres said. “It went back and forth. Both teams had chances.”
He said the play that led to Royal’s tying goal was a product of being young in the back. The Warriors start three sophomores on the back line.
“We’re young in the back and it showed today against a good team,” said Torres
The Warriors got on the scoreboard first, as Oscar Montes scored an unassisted goal in the sixth minute.
Royal answered with goals in the 10th and 20th minutes to go up 2-1.
Carpinteria would equalize in the 28th minute. Edwin Elizarrares scored the goal off an assist from Montes.
The Warriors took the lead, 3-2, on a penalty kick by Ismael Soriano after Elizarrares was fouled in the box.
