Westmont’s women’s basketball team is off to a 7-1 start this season, a start that includes wins over two ranked teams. The Warriors received their own NAIA ranking for the first time this season on Monday, entering the coaches top-25 poll at No. 22.
The Warriors’ latest win was a 70-50 rout of then-No. 17 Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday. Westmont also beat at-the-time No. 14 Trevecca Nazarene earlier in the season. Both teams tumbled out of the top-25 on Monday.
The Golden State Athletic Conference has five women’s basketball teams in the nation’s top-25, led by Azusa Pacific at No. 3. Vanguard is also a top-10 team at No. 6, followed by No. 12 Biola and No. 19 California Baptist.
Westmont travels to California Baptist on Tuesday for its third GSAC game of the year and returns home to host Hope International on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Vanessa Farias is Westmont’s leading scorer on the season with an average of 13.8 ppg. Katie Kittles is next at 12.3 ppg.
