SBCC went 3-crazy on Wednesday and broke a pair of school records in a 92-70 women’s basketball victory over Reedley at the Grossmont Holiday Tournament. The Vaqueros, ranked 15th in the state, drained 15-of-47 from long range to set new school marks for 3-pointers made and attempted.
Santa Barbara (12-5) shattered its season-high scoring mark by 16. The Vaqueros attempted 30 more shots than their opponent, making 33-of-78 for 42 percent. They also had a season-best 26 assists.
Freshman Lyndsay Bergus scored 15 of her season-high 21 points in the second half and canned 5-of-9 from beyond the 19-foot, 9-inch arc. Brooke Amenta scored 19 points off the bench and Nanice Kollee had 15 points (including three treys), five rebounds and five assists.
Imelda Bealer added seven points, five assists and four steals for the Vaqueros, who outscored the Tigers 45-12 from 3-point country. Janelle Wong had eight points, five rebounds and five assists while Mercedes Gonzalez collected seven points and seven boards.
SBCC hit 9-27 from downtown in the opening half to build a 42-32 lead.
“We played a lot harder and a lot smarter (than they did in Tuesday’s loss),” said coach Sandrine Krul. “We played all 14 players in the first half and created a lot of steals with our press.”
The Vaqueros will battle Santa Ana for the consolation title on Thursday at 1 p.m.
