Bishop Diego’s girls basketball team ran into a blazing hot St. Bonaventure side on Friday night, falling to the Seraphs 72-41 in the semifinals of the Cardinal Cage Classic.
“We didn’t play very well but they were tough to guard tonight,” said Cardinals head coach Jeff Burich. “We tried zone; we tried man; we just couldn’t find any formula to stop them.”
St. Bonaventure built its sizeable lead in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Cardinals 44-17 during that stretch. The Seraphs made 10 3-pointers in the game, nine of which came in the middle two quarters.
Madison O’Donnell led St. Bonaventure with 25 points.
Courtney Houston tallied a team-high 14 points for Bishop Diego and added five steals. Karina Valencia contributed eight points and 10 rebounds.
The Cardinals get back to it on Saturday, playing Villanova in the third-place game at 12:30 p.m.
