Carpinteria’s Andrew Sova sank two free throws with no time left on the clock on Monday, placing the Warriors into the Championship game of the Jim Bashore Classic thanks to an immediate 46-45 victory over Cabrillo.
Sova was fouled while taking a 3-point shot at the buzzer and made two of his three free throws, capping a come-from-behind victory. The free throws were taken without any players on his side of the court and Sova made the first before missing the second. Making the third saved the Warriors having to go to overtime to salvage the win. He did just that and was mobbed by thankful teammates.
Sova tallied 11 points total in the game. Paul Aguilar and Trevor Madden recorded a team-high 12 points each.
Carpinteria (7-1) meets Rio Mesa in the final on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Spartans and the Warriors were the two teams in the tournament to go 3-0.
