Avery Schwartz’s three first-half goals lifted Cate’s boys soccer team to a 3-1 victory over San Luis Obispo on Friday in the first game of the Soccer Town Showcase for both teams.
Schwartz, a junior forward, almost recorded a fourth goal but his shot was stopped by the goalpost.
Teddy Mauze and Joshua Yaro provided assists on two of Schwartz’s scores.
Blake Wands made a couple of great saves in goal for Cate, which lost the shutout on an own goal in the second half.
Cate (3-0) plays both Harvard-Westlake and Costa Mesa on Saturday.
