Carpinteria freshman Johnny Requejo scored the first two high school goals of his career on Friday, lifting the Warriors to a 3-2 victory over Segerstrom in the two teams’ first action of the Soccer Town Showcase.
Requejo broke through in the 19th minute and added his second in the second half off an assist from Edwin Elizarraras. Requejo’s second goal gave the Warriors a 3-0 lead, which Segerstrom cut to 3-2 on two late goals from Edgar Hernandez.
Requejo is currently training with the U.S. U-15 National Team in Carson.
Ismael Soriano scored Carpinteria’s second goal, assisted by Oscar Montes.
“Obviously the first half I was content with,” said Warriors head coach Daniel Torres, whose team improves to 4-0-1 on the season.
“I felt like we were still asleep in the first half,” said Segerstrom head coach Neil Stevenson. “I think Carpinteria came to play.”
Segerstrom, from the Golden West League in Orange County, is 1-1-3 on the season.
