Martinez knocked out of season-ending Pipe Masters

ASP World No. 17 Bobby Martinez finished his 2010 ASP World Tour season with an equal 25th place after he was eliminated during round 2 of the Billabong Pipe Masters on in Hawaii on Wednesday.

The native Santa Barbaran worked hard from the start, riding a total of 11 waves but nothing that allowed him anything over a 2.80 score (out of ten) leaving him in second position behind advancing surfer David Wassell (HAW).

The Billabong Pipeline Masters is the final stop on the ASP Men’s World Tour and the third and final jewel of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. In its 40th year, it is the longest running and most prestigious professional surfing event in the world. The event runs 8-20 December 2010 and includes the World’s Top 32 surfers as well as 15 Hawaiian Pipeline Specialists, of which twelve are event wildcards.

The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing consists of three men’s and three women’s professional surfing events that are the final stop on the 2010 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour. In its 28th year, the Vans Triple Crown is considered the most prestigious title in surfing next to the ASP World Title.
