Providence Hall came away victorious in its season opener on Tuesday, topping Valley Christian 72-59.
JT Royston was “phenomenal,” according to head coach Keith Luberto, scoring a game-high 32 points. Nate Dutcher recorded 17 points and Preston Towers added 14 rebounds.
The Lions were forced to come from behind for the victory after Valley Christian exploded for 26 points in the second quarter to take an 8-point lead at halftime. Providence Hall had opened up the game by taking a 10-0 lead.
“Our boys have looked forward to this game, our first in the CIF, for so long. It was like they were shot out of a cannon,” Luberto said.
Luke Gonzalez hit two consecutive 3-pointers for Providence Hall in the fourth quarter that sealed the game.
