Melissa Lemus put up 27 points on Tuesday and took Carpinteria’s girls basketball team to a season high in points, as the Warriors netted a 60-45 victory over Santa Maria at the VCA Tournament.
Lemus supported her point total with six assists and five steals to lead the Warriors to victory in their tournament opener.
“Her six assists to me are the critical part,” said Warriors head coach Dan Mercer of his sophomore point guard.
Juli Cullins also came through with a big game for Carpinteria. Cullins posted 18 points and 12 rebounds. Elena Schneider tallied a season-high with six points and provided energy off the bench.
Carpinteria’s previous season-high for points was 47 and came in the Warriors’ season opener. Carpinteria (5-5) plays again on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. against Nordhoff.
