COLUMBUS, Ohio – UCSB swimmers Sophia Yamauchi and Kevin Ferguson each posted a personal best time on Friday during the second day of the 2010 AT&T Short Course National Championships, which is being held at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion on the campus of Ohio State.
One day after posting a career best in the 50 freestyle, Ferguson bettered his time in the 100 backstroke. The junior posted identical marks in the event’s preliminary and consolation final, touching the wall in 48.44 seconds. The time is a personal best by .13 seconds and .30 off of the UCSB school record in the event.
Yamauchi posted a personal record in the 100 breaststroke with her preliminary time of 1:01.42, which is the third fastest time in school history. She took 16th in the event with her finals time of 1:01.80.
Gaucho alum Katy Freeman swam unattached in the meet and placed fourth in the 100 breast with a time of 1:01.42. Paige Bradley also swam the 100 breast, posting a time of 1:03.22 in the prelims.
In the 200 freestyle, Garrett Thompson qualified for the event’s bonus final and placed 22nd overall with a mark of 1:36.72, which was the 12th fastest time posted during the finals.
The Short Course National Championships will conclude on Saturday with the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free relay.
