Laguna Blanca girls basketball team was denied a chance to play for the title in its own tournament on Friday, falling to Fillmore 41-36 in Merovick Gym.
The Owls were able to cut an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter to just three points, but couldn’t get any closer.
“I got to hand it to the girls because they fought down to the last second. They didn’t quit and really showed a lot of heart,” said Owls head coach Chris Foster.
Krysta Brown had a monster game for Laguna, collecting 11 points and 21 rebounds. Natalie Nomura equaled Brown’s scoring output with 11 points.
“She owns the boards,” Foster said of Brown.
Laguna will no play Coast Union in Saturday’s third-place game at 9 a.m. while Fillmore will meet Holy Martyrs at 10:30 for the championship.
