Danny Rowell returned to the Dos Pueblos lineup on Tuesday, and the Division 1 No. 5-ranked Chargers were were happy to have him back.
Rowell scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 non-league boys soccer victory over visiting Pacifica.
“It was a captain’s performance,” DP coach Tovi Eliasen said of Rowell’s play.
Rowell, who was sidelined with an injury, scored on a brilliant individual effort. He dribbled from the halfway line, beat three players and finished with a hard, low shot to the left side netting from the right flank.
“It was a highlight reel goal,” said Eliasen, whose team improved to 9-1-1.
The coach cited the play of centerback Robert Bertha, who also was coming off an injury. “He did a fantastic job with Pacifica’s constant long balls,” said Eliasen.
Eliasen said the performance wasn’t his team’s best.
“I thought we had our worst day of soccer of the year. We were outplayed by Pacifica and lucky to get the win on the day. It’s a day we certainly want to move on from,” he said.
