Early season records didn’t hold up at Peabody Stadium on Tuesday, as Santa Barbara’s 0-2 boys soccer team brought down 3-0 Moorpark by the score of 2-0.
The Dons (1-2) were able to pick up their first win of the season behind goals from Tony Alfaro and Alex Navarro.
Santa Barbara had suffered two straight losses to Oaks Christian and St. Francis to start the season but Dons head coach Todd Heil said the defense has been improving with every practice.
“We got better after Oaks, we got better after St. Francis,” Todd Heil said. “Defensively, we played great.”
Santa Barbara held Moorpark (3-1) scoreless for the first time this season. Miguel Solis recorded the shutout in goal for the Dons.
Alfaro’s goal came off a free kick in the 15th minute, making it 1-0 until Navarro took a pass from Matt Medina in the 58th minute and tucked it home.
Santa Barbara moves into the Soccertown Showcase on a winning note and will start out against Taft on Friday at 2 p.m.
