Winning on the road in the Channel League is not an easy thing, and the Santa Barbara boys basketball learned that Wednesday night.
The young Dons were dominated in the second and third quarters and fell at Buena, 57-30, in the league opener for both teams.
“It’s a team that’s trying to finid its way,” Santa Barbara coach Chris Hantgin said. “Where we’re at right now, road games are going to be tough. You have to play good defense, rebounding is important, and you need offensive patience.”
The Dons led 10-9 after the first period and then gave up 20 points in the second and third quarters.
“They were too quick on offense and that allowed them to get run-outs,” said Hantgin.
He said his players’ hearts are in the right place and “they’ll be better the next time they play Buena.”
Andy Busch scored seven points to lead the Dons (2-7), who play San Marcos on Friday at SBCC’s Sports Pavilion.
