Sylvia Hoover and Gigi Gallegos keyed a strong defensive effort to lead Santa Barbara High’s girls basketball team to a 58-41 win over Santa Ynez in a pool play game at the Gold Coast Tournament on Thursday at San Marcos.
Hoover and Gallegos held two of the Pirates’ top players to a combined six points in the second half.
Riley Lloyd also played a solid defensive game with three steals. She led the team with 12 rebounds and scored 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting.
Tess Emerson paced the Dons’ offense with 25 points.
Santa Barbara (5-1) plays Saugus Friday at Rio Mesa High.
