Santa Barbara’s boys soccer team came away with two ties against ranked Southern Section teams on Saturday, drawing both Mountain View and San Clemente at Peabody Stadium as part of the Soccer Town Showcase.
The Dons played Mountain View, the No. 4 team in Division IV, to a scoreless draw before matching San Clemente, the No. 5 team in Division I, at 1-1.
“I thought it was great,” said Dons head coach Todd Heil about the Showcase. “We played three teams we would normally not get to play.”
Alfredo Ibarra recorded Santa Barbara’s goal against San Clemente, which came soon after the opening whistle in the sixth minute. But San Clemente got it back in the 26th minute on a corner kick.
Heil thought the Dons responded well by playing the better half in the second 40 minutes, outshooting San Clemente 5-2.
Miguel Solis recorded both shutouts in goal for the Dons, who start their Channel League schedule on Tuesday at Buena.
