Santa Barbara’s girls water polo team continued its hot start on Tuesday, knocking down San Marcos 13-4 in the Channel League opener for both teams.

The Dons are off to a 3-0 start and just moved up to No. 4 in the CIF Division I rankings.

Santa Barbara, which never trailed against the Royals, benefitted from a trio of hat tricks from Makenzy Fowler, Charlotte Hendrix and Betsy Hendrix.

San Marcos’ Hannah Koper scored twice and Brittny Hummel and Halie Johnson scored for the Royals.

“It was a good first game of the year for us,” said Royals coach Brian Roth. “I feel that I learned a lot about my team, and my team learned a lot about themselves.”

San Marcos plays again on Thursday against Fountain Valley in the first round of the Villa Park Tournament.
