Santa Barbara’s boys basketball team took on Atascadero for the second time in three days on Monday, falling to the Greyhounds 64-46.
“I thought we played better tonight,” said Dons head coach Chris Hantgin, whose team shaved off 16 points from Saturday’s losing margin.
Daniel Marshall led Santa Barbara with 14 points and sophomore point guard Caleb Hale came through with nine. In another bright spot for the Dons, Brendan Fay tallied seven points in his first varsity game.
But Atascadero’s Sean Slavin, a 6-foot-7 center, was nearly unstoppable in the paint with 19 points, leading the Greyhounds (7-2) to a 40-21 halftime lead.
The Dons (2-6) return to the hardwood on Wednesday for their Channel League opener at Buena. On Friday, the Dons take on San Marcos at Santa Barbara City College at 7 p.m.
