“That’s our thing,” Dos Pueblos girls basketball coach Jelani Hicks said about his team’s ability to disrupt opponents with its aggressive defensive play.
The Chargers recorded 21 steals Friday to help them roll to a 58-37 win over Lompoc at the Lompoc Tournament.
Chiara DiMarco led the DP defensive effort with eight steals while Kristin Gowdy had six and Jessica Escalante five.
Escalante and DiMarco paced the offense with 17 points apiece, and Escalante contributed six assists. Gowdy had nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
The Chargers next meet Channel League and crosstown rival Santa Barbara in the round-robin tournament.
“It’ll be a good test,” said Hicks about playing the Dons.
